Audio-Technica USB headphone amplifier with built in DAC (AT-HA30USB) for notebooks will be available in Japan from June 20th for approximately 21,000 yen ($205). The headphone amplifier device measures 61.5 × 21 × 10.6mm and weighs 15.5g only. Like a pen drive, the USB port is protected by a takeoff type cap. The maximum output power from Audio-Technica USB headphone amplifier is 13mW × 2ch (32Ω). Total harmonic distortion is less than 0.03%.10Hz and SN ratio 97dB or more. It is powered by USB bus power.

EIZO today announced the FlexScan EV2216W, an LED-backlit 22-inch monitor with EIZO-developed dimming technologies to eliminate screen flicker and reduce eye fatigue. The FlexScan EV2216W is the first EcoView monitor with a 22-inch screen and 1680 x 1050 native resolution (16:10 aspect ratio). The brightness dimming methods used with conventional LED-backlit monitors cause some users to see flicker which can result in eye fatigue. The FlexScan EV2216W incorporates an EIZO-developed solution that regulates brightness to make flicker unperceivable without compromising color stability. Even at just 1% of the maximum brightness the monitor remains flicker-free.

Fujitsu Laboratories and Fujitsu R&D Center today announced the development of 3D hand gesture recognition technology that, using video captured on a single PC or tablet camera, can detect not only vertical and horizontal hand motion, but also the forward and backward movements of increasing or decreasing distance of a hand from the display. With existing hand gesture recognition technology it has been possible to detect hand motions along the vertical and horizontal axes, which represent operations similar to moving a mouse cursor. However, detecting forward and backward hand motions—changing distance to perform the same function as a mouse click—has proven difficult.

HP today announced its record-breaking, long-run production of personalized labels on HP Indigo WS6000 series Digital Presses for Coca-Cola’s biggest-ever personalized brand campaign. The campaign, Share a Coca-Cola, was launched across Europe on May 1.The campaign is designed to help Coca-Cola engage directly with its consumers in 32 countries. University of Tokyo professors Masatoshi Ishikawa and Hiroyuki Shinoda have unveiled a system that projects a keyboard or smartphone display onto surfaces like a person’s moving palm or a sheet of paper, in what could be a step toward using computers without having to hold a physical device. The system is activated by passing one’s hand over its detector. It uses a special camera to constantly capture the position of the hand, paper or other projecting surface, on to which a projector creates the image of a keyboard or display.
