NEC SDN-Compatible switches for Large Data Centers launched

NEC today announced the development of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) compatible switches that enable network configurations equivalent to several thousand server racks, aimed at the large data centers operated by telecom carriers and service providers. The switches go on sale globally starting today. The new NEC switches are available in two varieties. The PF5340-48XP-6Q is a Top of Rack (ToR) switch with a 48-port 10GbE interface for consolidating servers. The PF5340-32QP is an aggregation switch that consolidates multiple racks with 32 40GbE ports.

When used in combination with an SDN controller the switches enable a highly scalable and cost-efficient large data center network to be built utilizing SDN.
