Hitachi Displays has developed a touch panel IPS LCD for mobile phones with an independent protection plate that reduces the amount of noise emitted when displaying images on the LCD to less than half that of existing models through the application of a highly sensitive touch panel control IC. Up until now, mobile phone construction has consisted of a touch panel integrated with the protection plate making it necessary to dispose of the touch panel together with the plate when defects such as scratches or soiling occurred during the assembly process of mobile phone manufacturers.

However, this newly developed display allows for the replacement of only the protection plate. Due to this innovation, disposal of touch panels is decreased for a reduced total cost of touch-panel LCDs.
