Fujitsu today announced the development of FUJITSU Intelligent Networking and Computing Architecture, a new architecture for network-wide ICT platform optimization based on the principles of software defined networking (SDN). The new architecture employs a software-based approach to intelligently and flexibly enable optimized control over three unique ICT domains: datacenters, wide area networks, and smart devices. In doing so, it extends the core concepts of SDN beyond networks to the entire ICT platform.

NTT DoCoMo mobile phones are used in 98 percent of all criminal activity conducted through rental handsets in Japan, according to a National Police Agency study. Softbank Mobile and KDDI impose limits on the number of mobile communication lines issued to corporate customers, based on their size, but DoCoMo has no such restraints, a major reason behind the widespread criminal use of its handsets. In addition to imposing upper limits on the number of communication lines, Softbank Mobile checks the purpose of handset use when concluding contracts with corporate clients. In addition, rental phone companies are required to sign a letter of understanding with Softbank Mobile obligating them to conduct thorough identity verification checks of their customers.

Something is fishy about a new sea creature at Aquamarine Fukushima in Japan. The sea creature is not alive- it is a robotic coelacanth, measuring about 1.2 meters long. Robotic coelacanth fish is on display at the permanent exhibition called The World of Coelacanth on the first floor of the aquarium in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. The aquarium is famous for its study of coelacanths, a prehistoric fish that was once thought to be extinct. Researchers captured images of live coelacanths in waters off Indonesia using a remote underwater camera.

Robot maker CrazyLabo and the Kitakyushu National College of Technology, both in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan have developed a female humanoid and a dog robot that sniff a person’s breath and feet and use snarky remarks and exaggerated reactions to encourage offenders to do something about their breath and body odor. The female robot, Kaori-chan, has brown hair and blue eyes. When a person breathes in her face, she analyzes and quantifies components in their breath, and evaluates the smell on a scale of one to four.

Panasonic today announced that it has developed a new multi-band wireless communication technology that enables low powered stable communication through simple wireless connections between devices of different standards. Devices equipped with this technology will be able to support all the frequency bands of wireless sensor networks and realize energy savings of 30% of the power of conventional single band wireless blocks. These technologies will accelerate the spread of M2M (Machine to Machine) Sensor Networks that support cloud-based data exchange without human intervention.
