Canon announced today, the development of a new wide-angle cinema lens for large-format sensors, the CN-E14mm T3.1 FP X. With a focal length of 14mm, it is the world’s widest-angle lens for large-format cinema cameras. The new lens is capable of delivering stunning image quality thanks to its high level of optical performance, which ensures exceptional resolution and contrast from the center of the image to the edges, even at its maximum aperture of T3.1. The lens supports interchangeable lens mounts (“EF mount” or “PL mount”) and various communication functions.

Designed with professional filmmakers in mind, the CN-E14mm T3.1 FP X also features advanced optical coatings to minimize ghosting and flare, while its rugged construction makes it suitable for use in a wide range of shooting environments. The new lens achieves impressive image creation with natural bokeh rendering and covers the focal length of six Canon “single focal length lenses” series.

Compatible with cameras equipped with a super 35mm sensor, the CN-E14mm T3.1 FP X can be used for a wide range of video production such as movies, dramas, and commercials. A bright aperture of T1.7 is achieved over the entire zoom range, enabling impressive image expression with a shallow depth of field. Canon will begin shipping the CN-E14mm T3.1 FP X in the second half of 2023. The lens is expected to be well-received by the professional filmmaking community for its exceptional image quality and versatility.
