Amazon.com announced today that its Kindle electronic book reader posted its best sales yet in November, as rivals struggled with their customer orders. Amazon did not release figures to support the claim. The electronic-book reader remains the best-selling product across all product categories on Amazon, boasting that it’s flying off the shelves faster than any other product Amazon sells. Shoppers were buying several Kindles at once as holiday gifts, while businesses and organizations were buying the device in large quantities for employees or clients.
While the higher-than-expected demand proves consumer interest in the device, Barnes & Noble and Sony also appear to have lost an opportunity to gain share against Amazon’s market-leading Kindle device.E-readers have proven popular among business travelers and avid readers. Forrester Research predicts sales this year will reach 3 million units, with 30 percent of the purchases occurring during the holiday season.
