NXP Semiconductors today announced the availability of its complete WiMAX 2×2 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output)-powered family of transceivers for mobile and handheld applications. In support of the mass deployment of mobile WiMAX, NXP’s new family of transceivers employ 2×2 MIMO technology, allowing for twice the data throughput and double the maximum speed of the company’s existing WiMAX transceiver solutions. NXP’s new family of UXA234xx WiMAX transceivers improves reach and drives greater bandwidth and spectral efficiency, being particularly effective for accessing a WiMAX connection in dense urban areas.

End users can thus experience speeds of up to 15 MB – three to five times faster than today’s wireless broadband cellular networks. The UXA23466 and UXA23476 WiMAX 2×2 MIMO transceivers are sampling now. Volume production will start in Q2.
