LG to take on the international smartphone market with a range of new models this year

LG plans to take on the international smartphone market with a raft of new models, including one to be released in the third quarter and 10 more by year’s end. LG is also working on an Android-powered tablet PC to challenge Apple’s iPad and Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Tab. The Android-powered tablet PC will be grouped under the Optimus brand name to boost brand awareness. LG will release more than four smartphones in the Korean market in the second half, and its first smartphone targeting the global market, dubbed the Optimus One with Google, in the third quarter.


LG intends to lead the market with the mid- to high-priced device in the U.S. and emerging markets such as Brazil, India, China and Southeastern Asian countries. LG will introduce its Android-powered tablet PC in the fourth quarter
