NEC’s new compact outdoor LTE wireless base station features REC (Radio Equipment Controller) control functions with SON (Self Organizing Network) technologies that enable efficient construction and operation of base stations. The removal of cooling fans enables the new base station to consume 75% less power than conventional stations and contributes to reducing CO2 emissions. NEC will provide the new base stations to telecommunications carriers throughout the world while contributing to the efficient construction and operation of next generation networks.

NEC’s new compact outdoor LTE wireless base station measures 449mm width, 490mm height, 145mm depth, weighs 17kg and is the smallest in its class. The LTE wireless base station can be easily transported by a single person and flexibly installed. LTE systems are being developed in order to deliver high-speed data transmission rates of more than 100Mbps-downlink and 50Mbps-uplink, to improve latency and to enhance the efficiency of frequency use. NEC will display the compact outdoor LTE wireless base station at the NEC booth of the Broadband World Forum Europe 2009 held in Paris, France from 7-9 September.
