Models hold NTT Docomo’s new Experia smartphone during an event to mark the product’s launch in Akihabara on Thursday. The smartphone is based on Google’s Android operating system. The Sony Ericsson Mobile handset, which is 119 by 63 by 13.1 millimeters, is positioned to challenge Apple’s iPhone marketed by Softbank Mobile Corp. The Xperia allows users to swiftly download music, pictures and video from personal computers and to access services provided by Google, Docomo said. The Xperia is the second Android-based smartphone marketed by NTT Docomo. The first, HT-03A by Taiwan manufacturer HTC, was released last July.
