The R61517, a single-chip LCD controller LSI for mobile phone from Renesa Technology supports amorphous wide QVGA (WQVGA: 240 x 432 pixels) size TFT color LCD modules. Thanks to the independent RGB gamma adjustment function, the LSI can separately correct R (red), G (green) and B (blue) gammas. The new product achieved better display performance, including color reproduction, by finely tuning RGB gradation in accordance with the LCD panel’s chromatic property and changes in image quality caused by external light, etc. When displaying 1seg broadcasts, the LSI can save overall power used by an LCD panel module by about 30% on average and 50% at maximum, compared with the company’s previous model, said Renesas. Part of an image data processing circuit for BLC function is a joint development with Hitachi Ltd.

The R61517 further expands the company’s lineup of LCD controller-drivers for mobile devices such as mobile phone handsets. Sample shipments will begin on November 16th in Japan.
