Market researcher Strategy Analytics on Monday said Apple accounted for 42.7 percent of global smartphone revenues during the fourth quarter of last year, compared to Samsung’s 28.7 percent. Apple sold 27.4 million iPhones 5 in the last fourth quarter, compared to only 11.6 million LTE smartphones sold by Samsung. Samsung ranked first in the previous quarter in terms of both unit sales and revenues, but strong sales of Apple’s new iPhone 5 unveiled in September last year were responsible for the switch.
