Chinese state-run broadcaster CCTV has chosen Apple and Volkswagen as Bad Companies of 2013. CCTV announced the selection in a program on Friday marking World Consumer Rights Day. Apple was chosen because of the poorer quality of after-service in China compared to other countries. Volkswagen was selected due to consumer complaints over its six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox. VWs using the gearbox saw sudden increases in speed or rough gear-shifting.
Last year, CCTV chose McDonald’s and Carrefour. Walmart and Korea’s Kumho Tire also won the dishonor in previous years.
