Casio announced today the release of an exciting new sports watch. The STB-1000 uses wireless technology to enable the wearer to check personal fitness data from popular mobile apps and operate a music player on an iPhone. Casio has now extended iPhone compatibility, enabled through Bluetooth v4.0, to the sports watch category with the new STB-1000. It is compatible with four iPhone fitness apps: Abvio’s Runmeter, Walkmeter, and Cyclemeter, as well as Wahoo Fitness, all available for download from the Apple App Store. The sports watch can be used to check personal fitness data such as running pace and distance, elapsed time, pulse, cycling speed, and pedal rotations.

To make running more comfortable and fun, the new watch makes it easy for wearers to operate their iPhone music player. Without having to take out their iPhone, wearers can easily play or stop songs using the watch buttons, while also adjusting the volume or advancing a track. The watch itself (without an iPhone) also offers a wide range of other sports watch functions, including recording of up to 120 lap times.

Casio plans to expand the number of fitness apps compatible with the STB-1000. By allowing wearers to change their fitness applications without having to change their watch, they will be able to view personal fitness data for different sports. This will dramatically increase the convenience and fun of using the STB-1000.
