Imuraya Confectionery delivers three types of Japanese cakes to Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi on ISS+

Imuraya Confectionery, Japan has delivered three types of Japanese cakes to Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi, who has been staying on the International Space Station since December. The cakes were delivered by space shuttle Discovery with seven crew members aboard including Japanese astronaut Naoko Yamazaki. Space shuttle was launched from Kennedy Space Center on April 05, 2010. For their consumption in space, the expiration dates of the cakes have been extended through a special manufacturing process.


Imuraya Confectionery has been making confectioneries for more than a century and has a large share of Japanese style confectionery such as Yokan (sweet azuki red bean jelly) and Mizu Yokan (soft sweet azuki red bean jelly), steamed meat buns and sweet azuki red bean paste buns, both popular snack foods; and a large variety of ice cream and sherbet.
