Samsung and Maytag announce a voluntary recall of front-loading washing machines due to fire hazard

wf306bhw.jpgSamsung Electronics and Maytag, a division of Whirlpool announced that they are recalling a total of 270,000 front-loading washing machines, about 250,000 Maytag-brand units and about 20,000 Samsung-brand units, due to fire hazard. Water leakage onto the electrical connections of the washing machine’s thermal sensor could cause an electrical short and ignite a circuit board, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.The two companies have received six incident reports(Maytag 5, Samsung 1) so far, but no reports of injuries or property damage.


The recall involves Maytag front-load washing machines with model numbers beginning with MAH9700 or MAH8700 and Samsung model number WF306BHW or a model number beginning with WF316. The machines were sold from April 2005 through August 2006 for between $1,000 and $1,200.
