Toy manufacturer Tomy has opened its first permanent amusement facility, Takara Tomy Planet, in Tokyo. Located within Ito-Yokado Co.’s Ario Kameari store in Katsushika Ward, the facility immerses visitors in a world of toys from the Takara and Tomy brands. Ito-Yokado, headquartered in the same ward as Tomy, initiated the collaboration to create a unique entertainment experience. This marks the first permanent facility to bear the toy company’s name, offering interactive attractions that combine traditional toys with cutting-edge digital technology.
Takara Tomy Planet features eight attractions based on popular products like Tomica, Plarail, Pop-Up Pirate, and Licca. Visitors can enjoy hands-on activities, including a digital version of the classic “Blackbeard” barrel-stabbing game and a fashion design challenge for Licca-chan dolls. The facility leverages next-generation technologies, including projection mapping, developed by Litpla Inc., which specializes in digital theme parks. This collaboration builds on Ito-Yokado’s prior experience operating amusement sites in Kanagawa Prefecture that incorporate similar innovative technologies.
The facility provides an engaging experience for families, as highlighted during its unveiling event attended by Tomy executive officer Shunsuke Takeuchi and comedy duo Lotti. Admission fees for a 30-minute session are set at 800 yen ($5) on weekdays and 1,000 yen ($6.35) on weekends, with an optional one-day pass available. Families must also pay an annual registration fee of 600 yen. Designed to offer “unprecedented experiences,” Takara Tomy Planet aims to captivate fans of all ages by blending the nostalgic charm of its toys with the excitement of modern technology.
