Umbrella with a joystick-like control handle allows users to manually adjust the direction of the umbrella’s tilt and lock it in place
Researchers at UNIST came up with the perfection solution to enjoy rain at its best while using an umbrella. During heavy rains we have to hold the umbrella very tight against the wind and also adjust the direction of the umbrella against wind for maximum protection from not getting wet. UNIST’s Tilting Umbrella is the solution for such type of conditions. The innovative Tilting Umbrella was recognized as a Design Concept Finalist at the 2016 Spark International Design Awards in San Francisco. The head of the Tilting Umbrella automatically adjusts itself according to the direction of the wind.
When the wind comes from the right, the amount of rain that makes contact with the canopy is more focused towards the right, and the umbrella tilts accordingly. Near the Tilting Umbrella handle is a joystick-like control that allows users to manually adjust the direction of the umbrella’s tilt and lock it in place. The umbrella is designed in such a way that its head moves freely depending on the wind direction. Tilting Umbrella will be particularly useful for children and the elderly.
