Sharp LCDs are being used in the flight deck of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a state-of-the-art, all-new-commercial airplane. This is the first LCD for aviation usage to incorporate Advanced Super View LCD, a display technology that Sharp developed for the AQUOS LCD TV. Boasting superior optical characteristics including high contrast, wide viewing angle, and excellent color reproduction, the Advanced Super View LCD gives the pilot and co-pilot, a clear view of vital flight information. The Sharp display also exhibits superb durability in the face of temperature and air pressure changes, and vibration and shock.
Ever since 1973 when Sharp introduced a pocket calculator with the world’s first practical application of LCD, the company has evolved LCD technology and made it possible to introduce a number of application products including notebook PCs, PC monitors, color mobile phones, and LCD TVs. This is the latest success spawned by Sharp’s years of experience and reliability in LCDs for aerospace applications. Since 1991, Sharp has collaborated with Rockwell Collins to supply LCDs for jet airliner flight decks
