Toyota demonstrated today its latest advances in vehicle-infrastructure cooperative systems, which use Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) technologies to enable communication between cars and elements of their surroundings in an effort to reduce collisions. The cooperative systems, presented at a media event at TMC’s Higashi Fuji Technical Center, make road-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-vehicle and pedestrian-to-vehicle information exchange possible, resulting in audio and visual warnings to drivers when a collision is probable.
After further development, these systems—which can even reduce vehicle speed, if needed—are expected to reduce the number of traffic accidents that are difficult to prevent with conventional safety devices.
