Apples new iPhone to have in-cell touch panel from LG Display

Apple’s new iPhone to be launched next month is expected to get slimmer with an “in-cell” touch panel from LG Display. The panel integrates the touch sensor panel and LCD panel, making the screen slimmer. In earlier models, a layer of glass separates the liquid crystal and the touch parts of the display, but in-cell eliminates that layer, thereby also saving battery power. LG was the first to start mass-production of in-cell touch panels this month, and the next iPhone will most likely use them, according to the latest carefully orchestrated leaks from the industry.

Apple is expected to launch the new iPhone in September or October. Apple’s new iPhone is expected to have a larger screen but will be about 1 mm thinner than the iPhone 4S’.
