Point Grey recently announced its latest innovation in imaging with the Grasshopper3, the world’s first machine vision camera to combine CCD technology with a USB 3.0 interface. The Grasshopper3 fulfills a growing demand from machine vision and in life science applications for a combination of highly sensitive CCD global shutter technology, high bandwidth, and a plug-and play-interface, all at an attractive price point. The first Grasshopper3 model, GS3-U3-28S4, has a maximum frame rate of 26 FPS and features the Sony 2.8 MP, ICX687 CCD sensor with its excellent image quality and near IR response.
Like all Point Grey USB 3.0 cameras, the Grasshopper3 is built on an FPGA and frame buffer-based architecture to provide optimal reliability, a rich set of features, and a full image processing pipeline including color interpolation, look up table, gamma correction, pixel binning functionality, and much more. The Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-28S4 (color and monochrome) model is list priced at USD $1295 and EUR €995 and is available to order now from Point Grey.
