Apple Chairman Steve Jobs, who built the world’s most valuable technology company by creating devices that changed how people use electronics and revolutionized the computer, music and mobile-phone industries, died. He was 56.
The Apple.com website has an image featuring Steve Jobs that is labeled with the dates 1955 -2011.
Jobs, who resigned as Apple Inc. chief executive officer on Aug. 24, 2011, the Cupertino, California-based company said today. He was diagnosed in 2003 with a neuroendocrine tumor, a rare form of pancreatic cancer, and had a liver transplant in 2009.
Apple posted this message on its website:
“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”
