KDDI and DoCoMo announces lightweight AR glass Nreal Air

NTT DoCoMo and KDDI today announced light weight Nreal Air AR glasses, which will go for sale in Japan from December 2021. Nreal Air AR glasses is developed by Beijing based firm Nreal. The AR glasses weighs 76 g only. The glasses support Android and iPhone via an optional device.

The AR glass weighing about 76g, is easy to carry and features a comfortable design that blends into everyday life. The Nreal Air AR glasses comes without camera compared to previous model Nreal Light available for approximately $628. Absence of camera makes the glass lighter and cheaper.

By connecting to a smartphone and using the mirroring mode, user can enjoy content such as videos and web browsers on a 130-inch screen that is 4 meters away. Android smartphones with MR Space function can simultaneously displays multiple contents in the virtual 3D space created in the AR glasses. Multiple contents can be projected on the AR glass at the same time, and multitasking is possible, such as communicating with friends while watching videos.

The display is organic EL with 1,920 x 1,080 dots x 2. The angular resolution is 49PPD and the refresh rate is up to 90Hz. Since it is AR glass, the display has a see-through structure. You can check the surrounding conditions even when wearing it, and you can work with the glasses on. Retail price and launch date to be announced later.
