Continuing its Revival Collection into 2021, ORIENT will faithfully reproduce its iconic 1960s World Diver models, complete with their impressive multi-colored world map motif. Four rare models will be available, each with unique retro designs and modern specifications and features. ORIENT is loved by watch aficionados worldwide for its creative, original designs and the reliability of its movements.
The Orient Revival Collection, which saw the renewal of the 1960s King Diver model in 2020, features models that have symbolised the essence of the brand for over 70 years of watchmaking history. The original designs are faithfully reproduced and enhanced with new specifications. The revival models will be launched in Japan tomorrow for approximately 52,800 yen ($498) inclusive tax.
Calendar Auto Orient Swimmer World Trip, the predecessor of the World Diver, was launched in 1964—the year that Japan lifted restrictions on overseas travel for the Japanese public. World Diver was launched in 1969 as its successor and featured a unique dial with a multi-coloured map of the world and simplified 24-hour time display. The watch came to symbolise the aspirations of Japanese people who dreamed of travelling overseas.
The new Revival Collection World Map will include the faithful reproduction of the original world map dial from 1969 in a limited-edition of just 1,200 pieces worldwide. There will also be three models featuring ivory, green, and blue coloured dials ideal for everyday use. While the ivory dial provides a nostalgic charm, the green and blue gradation dials reflect the earth as a celestial body in the universe. The dial has been specially processed to appear spherical due to the lens effect. It depicts a mystical radiant earth that plays tribute to the depth and beauty of nature, sea and forest.
Just like the original 1969 model, each new model displays time, date, and day of the week. They also have an inner bezel that can be rotated using the crown at the four o’clock position on the case, allowing a simplified 24-hour time display. The case has been updated to achieve water resistance to 20 bar, and the bracelet is composed of solid metal links for suppleness and comfortable fit. The automatic in-house caliber F6922 provides stable high accuracy, making these models perfect for any occasion.
